The second photo in the gallery of me Lighting: Describe the lighting in the shot. Where is the light coming from? How is it falling on the models face/head/body?Describe the shadows that are created in the photo. The light in the shot comes from the left side, it is a bright natural light. It shines evenly along the entirety of the face, and body. There are two distinct shadows that are created from the light. The first being along the subjects body of himself and the second shadow being towards the left side of the photo on the wall. Position of the Model: How is the model situated? Is the photo a head shot, or did you include more of the torso? Is the model facing the camera, looking to the side, tilting their head… The photo is a torso and above shot. The subject is facing the left. Position of the Camera/Composition: Did you take a horizontal or vertical photo? What was your point of view? Did you shoot from above, below, from the side or on an angle? How close or far were you from the model? The photo is a vertical photo, point of view is to the right of the subject. Shot straight on, and the distance from the subject was about 4-6 feet. Impact/Expression: What does the lighting, position of model and expression on face communicate? What aspect of the model’s personality is being revealed in the portrait? (serious, humorous, sad, anxious…) The positioning, lighting and expression communicate intensity/seriousness. There is no aspect being revealed in the portrait. Compare and contrast: Compare the photo to another with a different impact/viewer response. How did you use different lighting, positioning or expression to communicate a different feeling? (referring to the first) In the first photo the lighting is more artificial and the expression contradicts the green around the subject neck. This is to convey a sort of joking feeling that is not present in the second photo.
Eleanor Roosevelt
The light is coming straight on from a slight elevation.
The position of the model is a laid back, sitting position where she is smiling.
There is no major background/setting however she is in a chair type piece of furniture.
The point of view is straight on and the distance seems to be average distance approximately 4-7 feet.
The lighting and position indicate a cheerful, sort of elated presence that gives off the feeling that the subject is an easy going person.
